Experience
Dr. Edvinas Bakanauskas is a practicing attorney with more than 7 years of legal experience in advising clients. His experience includes representing clients before pre-trial bodies (Labour Dispute Committee), supervisory authorities (State Data Protection Inspectorate), and courts.
His main specialisation is advising and representing clients in judicial and extrajudicial disputes (contract law, labour law, data protection law, transport law, shareholder disputes, and compensation for material and non-material damage). The attorney advises in Lithuanian, English, Russian, and Polish and represents both Lithuanian and foreign clients.
In 2023, he successfully represented the interests of a Latvian carrier before the Polish customs and tax authorities. The result was that the head of the relevant Polish customs and tax office decided to refuse to impose 8 fines (totalling PLN 160,000.00) on the Latvian haulier for repeated infringements of Polish law.
Continuous improvement
In 2023, he defended his doctoral thesis at Vilnius University on “{1>Recognition of Group Interest, Protection of Rights of Minority Shareholders of a Subsidiary of a Private Limited Liability Company: Problematic Aspects of Corporate Law”, and is, therefore, well acquainted with the peculiarities of the corporate law field, in particular disputes between shareholders and disputes between a company and its managers.
In 2021, he completed a fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, where he carried out research and gained experience from renowned experts in German company law.
In 2018, he completed the Data Protection Officer (DPO) Certification course at Maastricht University and successfully passed the DPO examination, which gives him a detailed understanding of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
In addition, the attorney has legal experience in providing both external and internal (in-house) Data Protection Officer services.
In 2017, he graduated from Vilnius University, Faculty of Law, with a Master of Laws degree.
Recognition
In 2017, the Supreme Court of Lithuania awarded a certificate of appreciation for contribution to the development of legal thought and academic activity.
